From precision mechanic to internationally established company

GEMTEC

A company with history

Company foundation

In the 1930s, Mr. Groten founded his Optical-Mechanical Institute - OMA for short - in what is now the Mittenwald district of Motzen (Brandenburg). The focus was on the development and production of control systems for shipbuilding.

Company takeover I 1967

In 1967, Mr. Sauerwald took over the company, which now specialized in products for the agricultural production cooperatives (LPG) and INTERFLUG. Mr. Sauerwald also began training apprentices. After his death shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, an apprentice took over the company. His name: Gerhard Burschik.

Transfer to a corporation

Three years after Gerhard Burschik took over the company, he converted the craft business into a GmbH in 1992. The former “Gerhard Burschik Mechanical Workshop” became “GEMTEC” and concentrated on mechanical and electrical engineering production with its own project development and planning.

New management | 1998

At the end of the 1990s, sons Nils and Jan Burschik and fellow students Jens Krönert and Sven Lauritsen joined the company and took over management in 1998. While Jan Burschik continued the security technology division, Nils Burschik worked on expanding the metalworking branch. Jens Krönert and Sven Laurisen concentrated on developing automation solutions.

The expansion of metal processing required the company to enter into professional sheet metal processing. The purchase of a 2KW CO2 laser in 1998 was the first investment in what is now such an extensive machine park.

Move to Niederlehme | 2002

The expansion of the company required an increase in space. In 2002, the company moved to the newly built 1,200 square meter production and office complex on the property purchased for this purpose at Möllenberg 37 in Niederlehme (Königs Wusterhausen). Over the years, the machine park was gradually expanded to include laser cutting, bending and post-processing systems. At this time, GEMTEC had almost 50 employees.

Hall extension | 2008

After a short time, the production areas were no longer sufficient, so that only 5 years later another 500 square meter hall was inaugurated, in which the welding shop is still located today.

New hall construction | 2010

In 2012, a 900 square meter production hall was built specifically for control cabinet construction on the neighboring property, which GEMTEC had also acquired.

A 200 kW photovoltaic system was installed on suitable roof areas to help combat CO2 emissions.

New Business Line | 2012

In 2012, "special machinery and plant construction" was successfully integrated into the company structure. Plant and control technology with all the necessary mechanical components are produced in direct cooperation with the in-house automation and metal processing departments at the Wildau site.

New office complex | 2015

Due to the constant growth of the company, it became too tight at Möllenberg 37 despite hall extensions. Therefore, GEMTEC acquired another property at Möllenberg 1-2, into whose office building the management, accounting, the entire system house for security technology and software development as well as the automation engineering team moved in the summer of 2015.

Machine park expansion | 2018

By investing in a combined laser punching system, GEMTEC not only expanded its possibilities but above all its metal processing capacities.

New production site | 2022

At the end of 2019, GEMTEC acquired a corner plot of land measuring 1.7 hectares in the technology park in Königs Wusterhausen. The expansion was necessary to counteract the capacity limits that had long been reached at the previous locations. The relocation of the special machine construction and automation production areas to the new 3,000 m² production complex in the Königs Wusterhausen technology park took place in late summer 2022.

Industrial Systems | 2023

The year 2023 also brought changes: The automation solutions and special machinery and plant engineering teams, which were now united at a common location, merged into the business unit Industrial Systems

At that time, the medium-sized company employed around 160 people in three business areas at four locations throughout Germany.
